The announcement follows a comprehensive update to the Siegelklarheit platform, which has provided consumer guidance on sustainability labels since 2015.</p>
<h2>Recognition for Sustainable Cotton Production and Performance</h2>
<p>The new CmiA Sustainable Cotton Rating reflects a shift in the platform&#8217;s evaluation structure, moving from a two-tier system to a more nuanced five-level rating. This change allows for greater differentiation between various sustainability standards. Cotton made in Africa was assessed using the Sustainability Standards Comparison Tool (SSCT), a framework developed by over 200 experts from government, academia, and industry. The framework is based on internationally recognized agreements, including those of the International Labour Organization.</p>
<p>In the assessment, Cotton made in Africa achieved a perfect 100% score in the categories of credibility and social responsibility standards. It also secured an 88% score in the environmental category. These results solidify the CmiA Sustainable Cotton Rating as one of the top-performing labels currently reviewed by the platform. <p>Swimwear brand Arena has announced the launch of its first collection utilizing Lycra EcoMade fiber. This specific material is composed of 70 percent renewable, plant-based feedstocks, primarily industrial corn. By utilizing this alternative, the brand aims to reduce its reliance on traditional fossil fuel-based inputs. The new bio-based swimwear line, titled Vitalife, is designed to maintain the high-performance standards required for aquatic sports.</p>
<p>According to technical specifications, the Lycra EcoMade fiber performs identically to conventional elastane. The innovation was created through close collaboration with industry partners and is designed to support manufacturers seeking greater operational efficiency while meeting rising global demand for advanced composite materials.</p>
<p>The newly engineered Very Heavy Duty (VHD) creel is capable of handling 500kg packages of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor fibre, which are unwound directly into carbon fibre production lines. The increased package capacity represents a significant advancement for the sector, where fibre packages weighing up to 350kg have been the industry standard for more than a decade.</p>
<p>By accommodating larger bobbins, the 500kg carbon fibre creel enables manufacturers to extend production runs before replacing fibre packages. Fewer package changeovers translate into reduced downtime, smoother operations and improved overall production efficiency.</p>
<p>Cygnet Texkimp has established itself as a leading supplier of VHD creel systems, with more than 70 installations operating worldwide. Collectively, these systems process over 24,000 fibre bobbins, serving carbon fibre manufacturers across multiple international markets.</p>
<p>Peter Stevenson, Director of Projects at Cygnet Texkimp, said: “A 500kg bobbin offers an immediate win over a 350kg bobbin in terms of line efficiency by extending the length of continuous operation that can be achieved. The creel also supports the work of manufacturers to process higher tow count fibres, such as 24k or 48k tows, and achieve faster line speeds by increasing the size and weight of the PAN precursor bobbin.</p>

<p>The new system features an operator-controlled lifting and loading mechanism that transfers PAN precursor packages from the winding system to the creel. The initiative focuses on the benefits of natural fibers, the role cotton can play in addressing growing concerns around microplastics, and a clear, plant-based philosophy toward material choice positioning the message simply as: plant, not plastic.</p>
<h3><strong>A Decade of Research Behind the Push</strong></h3>
<p>Since 2010, Cotton Incorporated has been conducting biodegradation research and building a body of science-based resources that help brands, retailers and manufacturers engage with evolving conversations around fiber selection, cotton sustainability, circularity and textile waste. That long-standing investment in research now provides the foundation for this July&#8217;s expanded campaign.</p>
<p>The urgency behind the initiative is backed by real numbers. Consumer awareness of microplastics pollution has more than doubled over the past decade. According to the CCI &amp; Cotton Incorporated Global Sustainability Survey 2026, 41% of U.S. consumers now report awareness of the issue a sharp rise from just 17% recorded in 2017. As awareness of microplastics grows, purchasing behavior appears to be moving in step. The same survey found that nearly six in ten consumers, 59%, say they are likely to seek out clothing made with microplastic-free fibers.</p>
<p>These findings point to a meaningful shift in how consumers are thinking about fiber composition and cotton sustainability, opening new avenues for brands and retailers to align their product ranges with changing expectations.</p>
<h3><strong>The Industry Is Taking Note</strong></h3>
<p>It is not only consumers who are responding. According to a 2026 survey conducted by Sourcing Journal and Cotton Incorporated, two-thirds of textile professionals 67% said their companies are either actively taking steps to reduce microplastics pollution (43%) or plan to do so in the near future (24%). The data reflects a sector increasingly aware of the pressure to act on fiber selection and its broader environmental consequences.</p>
<p>Bev Sylvester, Chief Marketing Officer at Cotton Incorporated, addressed the growing momentum directly. &#8220;Our research shows that consumers are paying closer attention to what products are made from and how those materials align with their values,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Awareness of microplastics&#8217; pervasive impact continues to grow, and many consumers are actively seeking products made with microplastic-free fibers. <p>The campaign will extend to key industry tradeshows as well. At Kingpins New York, Cotton Incorporated will feature an interactive &#8220;Plastic in the Sea&#8221; photobooth experience, while Interfilière in Los Angeles will also serve as a platform for engagement.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="isSelectedEnd">The Uzbek government has rolled out a fresh package of financial incentives designed to reinforce the country&#8217;s cotton and textile sector, improve the financial health of businesses, and encourage greater value addition through advanced cotton fiber processing.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">The measures have been introduced under Presidential Decree PP-246, titled &#8220;On measures to improve financial stability in the cotton and textile industry and additional support for deep fiber processing,&#8221; according to the Ministry of Justice.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">As part of the Uzbekistan cotton textile support initiative, cotton-textile clusters and businesses established by these clusters will receive a subsidy of UZS 3 million (approximately US$250) per hectare for cultivating raw cotton on officially allocated agricultural land during 2025.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">Eligibility for this financial assistance will depend on satellite-based verification. The Agency for Space Research and Technology, Uzbekcosmos, must confirm that cotton is being cultivated on land assigned by the Ministry of Agriculture before subsidies are approved.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">The decree also extends support to manufacturers producing dyed fabrics, dyed yarns and blended yarns. Enterprises that complete qualifying projects before June 1, 2026, will be able to access subsidies using the remaining funds originally earmarked for dyeing equipment under the presidential decree issued on January 21, 2022.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">In another significant relief measure, cotton-textile clusters and textile companies that achieve Category A or above in the entrepreneur sustainability rating will qualify for accelerated VAT refunds. Until July 1, 2027, eligible businesses will receive refunds for negative value-added tax balances within 20 days without undergoing tax audits.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">The Uzbekistan cotton textile support package also introduces financial assistance for cotton growers beginning with the 2026 harvest. Producers who obtain preferential loans will be entitled to partial reimbursement of interest costs. Those making repayments on schedule can receive compensation of up to 2.5%, while borrowers settling their loans before December 31 will qualify for reimbursements of up to 5%.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">Textile clusters and cotton-processing enterprises will additionally benefit from interest compensation on commercial loans taken to procure raw cotton. The reimbursement will cover the portion of annual interest rates above 8%, up to a maximum threshold of 16%.</p>
<p class="isSelectedEnd">From September 1, the Agricultural Payments Agency will start reimbursing farmers for a portion of the expenses associated with electronic invoices issued during raw cotton transactions.</p>
