AI Summary

The Apparel Impact Institute, Cascale, Textile Exchange, and ZDHC Foundation have released an updated Supply Chain Taxonomy. This revised framework is designed to improve transparency and foster better collaboration across the TCLF sectors of the global apparel industry. By building upon the initial version introduced in November 2024, the alliance has addressed specific feedback regarding overlapping processes and ambiguous classifications within the value chain.

Refining the Framework for Sustainability Reporting

The updated Supply Chain Taxonomy provides clearer process definitions to assist organizations with their sustainability reporting and environmental efforts. Joël Mertens, the environmental impact methodologies director at Cascale, stated that the framework serves as foundational infrastructure for a more aligned and effective sustainability ecosystem. He expressed confidence that the commitment to alignment shown by the participating organizations will support progress throughout the industry.

This resource is intended to function as a shared language for all stakeholders. It is maintained through a collaborative process that includes annual updates to reflect changes in technology, materials, and regulatory requirements. By establishing standard reporting practices, the Apparel Impact Institute and its partners aim to reduce duplicated efforts and enhance the collective capacity for industry-wide sustainability initiatives.

Driving Industry Consistency and Alignment

Textile Exchange impact data and reporting director Luca Mosca noted that aligning on a shared language is essential for driving credible progress across the system. He explained that the updated taxonomy brings greater clarity to how processes and materials are reported. This consistency enables the ZDHC Foundation and other alliance members to collaborate more effectively and accelerate the transition toward preferred production systems.

While the framework does not encompass every possible process, it offers a practical foundation for uniform classification. The ZDHC Foundation and the broader alliance view this as a critical step toward future alignment among various organizations in the sector, ensuring that sustainability reporting remains consistent as the industry evolves.
