Recover, a materials science firm based in Madrid, has officially partnered with the T2T Alliance, an organization dedicated to advancing textile circularity and advocating for policy changes that promote textile-to-textile recycling.
Bringing its expertise in large-scale production of recycled fibers, Recover operates numerous recycling facilities across Spain, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and El Salvador. This experience positions the company to significantly contribute to the alliance’s mission.
Anders Sjöblom, CEO of Recover, stated, “Joining the T2T Alliance is an important step in advancing our mission to make circular fashion a reality at scale. Collaboration is essential to unlocking true textile-to-textile recycling, and by joining forces with other industry leaders through the Alliance, we can help shape the policies and standards needed to accelerate circularity across the textile value chain.”
The T2T Alliance includes prominent international firms such as Circ, Circulose, RE&UP, Syre, and Samsara Eco, all working to ensure that textile-to-textile recycling entities receive the recognition and support necessary within EU policy.
The alliance acts as a central hub for advocacy, collective action, and networking, ensuring that the insights of recyclers influence future regulations in the industry.
Key responsibilities of the T2T Alliance include:
-
Advocating for the perspectives of textile-to-textile recyclers in EU legislation.
-
Removing barriers that restrict the growth and scalability of the T2T sector.
-
Assisting in the creation of legal standards that require recycled content and recyclability in new textiles under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).
-
Promoting a closed-loop recycling approach, covering post-industrial, pre-consumer, and post-consumer waste materials.
Recover’s involvement in the T2T Alliance comes at a pivotal time when various legislative initiatives are set to reshape the landscape of the European fashion industry.
These initiatives include the ESPR, the Circular Economy Act, new revisions to the Waste Framework Directive introducing mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles, and the launch of Digital Product Passports (DPPs) to improve transparency and traceability.
Within the Alliance, Recover will concentrate on enhancing the traceability of recycled materials. As brands and consumers become increasingly aware of misleading claims about recycled content, establishing a genuine and trackable textile supply chain is essential. Enhanced traceability will support authentic textile-to-textile recycling, combat counterfeiting, and reduce overstated claims about recycled materials, leading to credible sustainability assertions.
The T2T Alliance operates under the guidance of 2B Policy, a consultancy focused on helping organizations navigate complex regulatory frameworks.
Ana Rodes, Recover’s head of sustainability, remarked: “At Recover, we joined the T2T Alliance because it is essential that policymakers hear the voice of textile-to-textile recyclers when shaping regulations that will drive circularity and competitiveness in our industry. By supporting and contributing to the Alliance, we can help ensure that our sector has the visibility it needs among policymakers and key stakeholders.”
In summary, Recover’s membership in the T2T Alliance will enhance the ongoing efforts towards achieving greater textile circularity and advancing the agenda for sustainable practices within the textile industry.
