For the 2024–25 season, net sales of Upland cotton in the United States amounted to 118,700 running bales (RB), with each bale weighing 226.8 kg (500 pounds), during the week ending May 22, 2025. This figure reflects a 16 per cent decline from the previous week but shows an 8 per cent increase compared to the prior four-week average. Meanwhile, export shipments of Upland cotton rose during the week but were lower than the four-week average.
As per the USDA’s weekly export sales report, the primary buyers included Vietnam (65,600 RB, incorporating 4,300 RB switched from Hong Kong, 1,500 RB from South Korea, and 900 RB from Pakistan), Bangladesh (17,300 RB, including 200 RB reductions), Turkiye (12,400 RB, including 200 RB reductions), Malaysia (8,800 RB), and Guatemala (8,100 RB). Offsetting these were reductions in sales for Hong Kong (4,300 RB), Peru (1,800 RB), South Korea (1,500 RB), and China (200 RB).
For the 2025–26 season, net sales of 13,800 RB were reported, driven by purchases from Pakistan (5,700 RB), Thailand (3,500 RB), Peru (2,600 RB), and Turkiye (2,000 RB), offset by a reduction of 100 RB for Mexico.
Export shipments of Upland cotton totalled 275,400 RB, a 10 per cent increase from the previous week but an 18 per cent decrease compared to the four-week average. The leading destinations were Vietnam (117,000 RB), Pakistan (34,300 RB), Turkiye (33,900 RB), Bangladesh (18,100 RB), and Mexico (11,900 RB).
In contrast, net sales of Pima cotton for 2024–25 fell significantly to 1,700 RB, marking a marketing-year low and a sharp decline from both the previous week and the four-week average. Increases were recorded for India (2,900 RB, including 500 RB reductions), Indonesia (300 RB), China (100 RB), and South Korea (100 RB), while reductions were noted for Colombia (3,100 RB), Vietnam (1,700 RB), Egypt (200 RB), and Hong Kong (100 RB).
For the 2025–26 season, net sales of Pima cotton totalled 5,500 RB, with Colombia (3,100 RB) and Vietnam (1,700 RB) as the primary buyers. Export shipments of Pima cotton reached 6,700 RB, down 12 per cent from the previous week and 25 per cent below the four-week average. Key destinations included Vietnam (2,700 RB), India (1,000 RB), China (900 RB), Ethiopia (900 RB), and Peru (700 RB).
