A delegation of Chinese investors along with representatives from approximately 25 textile and garment companies recently visited Egypt to explore opportunities for collaboration in the sector.
The delegation met Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector, Mohamed Shimy, who provided insights into the country’s investment potential within the textile and garment industry. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Cotton, Spinning, Weaving, and Garments Holding Company, as reported by local media.
Leading the Chinese delegation were Zhang Tao, deputy marketing director of the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), and Xu Yingxin, vice president of the China Textile Association. During the meeting, the delegation was introduced to a portfolio of high-value products produced by the holding company’s subsidiaries. These included a wide range of offerings such as yarns, fabrics, ready-made garments, home textiles, and medical textiles.
Minister Shimy also highlighted Egypt’s advancements in reviving ginning facilities and the development of seven large-scale manufacturing complexes. He underscored the country’s progress in modernizing its textile industry to attract global partnerships.
Egypt has been actively working on revitalizing its textile sector. In December 2024, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced the successful completion of the first phase of the country’s national textile modernization initiative. This ambitious project has a total investment exceeding EGP 56 billion, including EGP 22 billion allocated for infrastructure development and EGP 640 million invested in state-of-the-art machinery and equipment.
The visit by the Chinese delegation reflects Egypt’s growing efforts to position itself as a key player in the global textile and garment industry, leveraging its modernized facilities and enhanced production capabilities.
