Danish fashion powerhouse Bestseller commemorated its 50th anniversary by reporting an impressive revenue of 38 billion DKK (approximately $5.92 billion) for the fiscal year 2024–2025, reflecting a 7% increase compared to the previous year. The company also saw its pre-tax profit rise by 10% to 5.9 billion DKK, while its total tax contribution reached 8.7 billion DKK.
This significant year celebrates the legacy of its founders, Merete Bech Povlsen and Troels Holch Povlsen, who launched their first store in Ringkobing, Denmark, half a century ago. From humble beginnings, Bestseller has expanded into a global brand, boasting over 2,800 retail locations and employing around 25,000 individuals in 90 countries, as noted in a recent press release.
Anders Holch Povlsen, the CEO and owner of Bestseller, expressed satisfaction with the company’s performance despite ongoing challenges in the fashion sector. “We are pleased that we have managed to deliver results despite the ongoing challenging conditions affecting the fashion industry. At the same time, we remain humble and fully aware that the coming years will not be easy, and we know that we must work hard. Our results are the foundation that allows us, as a company, to make a difference – for example, through our contribution to the communities we are part of,” he stated.
Povlsen emphasized that Bestseller is proactively investing for the future. “We have invested ahead of the developments we anticipate, and we continue to invest strategically in key areas such as logistics, innovation, and—perhaps most importantly—people. We know that much lies ahead of us, and we are committed to taking on the responsibility that comes with our position. We are well equipped to achieve even better results and deliver on our ambitions that reach beyond our own company,” he added.
As part of the celebrations for the Bestseller 50th anniversary, the organization remains dedicated to strategic investments in sustainability, technology, and human resources. Through its innovation division, Invest FWD, Bestseller has supported tech companies like Softwear Automation, which specializes in automated clothing production, and Matterr, a German firm focusing on advancements in polyester recycling technologies. These projects are vital for fostering industry innovation and decreasing dependence on virgin materials.
Since the introduction of its sustainability initiative, Fashion FWD, in 2018, Bestseller has been embedding responsible practices across its design, manufacturing, and retail processes. The company’s corporate responsibility report highlights its continuous efforts to reduce environmental impact, promote circularity, and enhance social standards throughout its supply chain.
