E-commerce giant eBay has officially partnered with the Global Fashion Agenda (GFA) as a strategic ally, initiating a collaboration aimed at accelerating the fashion industry’s shift towards a circular economy.

In this new alliance, eBay and GFA will work together to engage with industry stakeholders to combat issues such as overproduction, the underuse of garments, and waste generated by the traditional linear fashion model.

This partnership, effective immediately, will leverage eBay’s extensive global marketplace and data-driven insights in conjunction with GFA’s platforms and initiatives.

GFA CEO Federica Marchionni stated, “eBay’s commitment to extending the lifespan of products makes them a valuable addition to our distinguished group of Strategic Partners.

“Circular business models, which include rental, resale, repair, and remaking, are gaining traction as both brands and consumers recognize their potential. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with eBay to drive impactful change as we work towards a net positive fashion industry.”

According to the organization, nearly 40% of all clothing, shoes, and accessories sold on eBay in 2024 were pre-owned items.

The online marketplace intends to use its platform data to inform policy discussions, share knowledge about resale and logistics, and connect brands with recommerce resources such as authentication services and digital product passports through GFA’s impact initiatives.

Additionally, eBay will support the Global Fashion Summit and GFA’s educational efforts by providing insights into how resale is shaping shopping trends and transforming fashion culture.

By partnering with GFA, eBay joins a network of companies spanning luxury, sportswear, and retail that are focused on promoting circularity, decarbonization, social equity, and climate resilience within the industry.

Alexis Hoopes, eBay’s global fashion vice president, commented, “By collaborating with other leaders in the fashion sector, we aim to make pre-loved items the preferred choice for shoppers, while making a lasting impact for both people and the planet.”
