India’s textile and apparel (T&A) exports saw a significant increase of 6.32% in the fiscal year 2024–25 (FY25), reaching a total of $36.606 billion. Apparel exports alone surged by 10.03% to $15.989 billion, while textile exports grew by 3.61% to $20.617 billion. However, in March 2025, T&A exports dipped slightly to $3.387 billion, with apparel shipments increasing by 3.97% and textile exports declining by 5.81%.
During FY25, apparel exports rose to $15.989 billion, up from $14.532 billion in FY24. Meanwhile, textile exports climbed by 3.61% to $20.617 billion, compared to $19.899 billion in the previous fiscal year. In March, apparel exports reached $1.531 billion, an increase of 3.97%, whereas textile exports dropped to $1.856 billion, a decline of 5.81%.
Overall, India’s goods exports increased marginally by 0.08% to $437.417 billion for FY25, with shipments in March 2025 rising by 0.66% to $41.968 billion. The textile and apparel sector accounted for 8.37% of India’s total merchandise exports from April 2024 to March 2025, but this share decreased to 7.88% in March, as reported by the Ministry of Commerce and Trade.
Within the textile industry, exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, and handloom products experienced modest growth of 3.19%, totaling $12.056 billion in 2024–25. Exports of man-made yarn, fabrics, and made-ups rose by 4.07% to $4.869 billion, while carpet exports increased by 10.46% to $1.542 billion.
In March 2025, the exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, and handloom products grew by 2.16% to $1.118 billion, while the exports of man-made yarn, fabrics, and made-ups fell by 0.85% to $436 million. However, carpet exports saw a rise of 6.52%, reaching $137 million.
On the imports side, raw cotton and waste imports soared by 103.67% to $1.219 billion during April–March 2025, compared to $599 million in the previous year. Imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups rose by 8.69% from $2.278 billion to $2.476 billion. In March 2025, raw cotton and waste imports jumped by 61.97% from $49 million to $79 million, while imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups increased by 19.98% to $193 million.
In FY24, India’s textile and apparel exports amounted to $34.430 billion, reflecting a decline of 3.24% from $35.581 billion in FY23. Apparel exports fell by 10.25% to $14.532 billion compared to $16.190 billion, while textile exports rose by 2.62% to $19.898 billion, up from $19.390 billion in FY23.
During FY24, India’s imports of raw cotton and waste were valued at $598.63 million, marking a 58.39% decrease from $1.440 billion in the previous fiscal year. Imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups also dropped by 12.98% to $2.278 billion, down from $2.618 billion in FY23.
Overall, India’s textile & apparel export growth reflects a positive trend, showcasing resilience amid fluctuating market conditions.
