Uzbekistan is taking concrete steps to elevate its textile industry on the world stage, doing so in close collaboration with Germany. These combined efforts center on adopting modern technologies, strengthening workforce capabilities, and expanding the country’s textile export growth across international markets.
At the heart of this initiative is the GUZ Partners project, a structured collaboration between the Uzbekistan Textile and Garment Industry Association and Germany’s Gesamtmasche. Spanning three years, the project is designed to deepen Uzbekistan textile industry engagement in global supply chains, forge new international partnerships, and drive measurable export expansion.
Assessing Industry Potential and Aligning with Global Standards
A central objective of the project is evaluating the full potential of the Uzbekistan textile industry and ensuring that local enterprises are aligned with the standards demanded by global markets. As part of this process, German experts engaged directly with government officials, academic and educational institutions, and more than 50 textile companies across the country. These wide-ranging discussions addressed the industry’s current state, the challenges it faces, strategies to raise productivity, and the adjustments needed to meet international market expectations.
Building a Skilled Workforce Through Practical Training
One of the project’s key priorities is the development of qualified personnel within the Uzbekistan textile industry. Through the Train-the-Trainer program, workshops focused on dyeing, finishing technologies, and export development were delivered to more than 30 specialists. Participants were introduced to modern production techniques, approaches to improving technological processes, and practical methods for organizing and expanding export activities.
Expanding Export Reach Through Direct Industry Engagement
The project’s efforts to boost the export potential of domestic enterprises have been gaining momentum. At TextileExpo Uzbekistan Spring 2026, German experts held meetings with representatives from more than 20 local manufacturers and brands. Conversations covered product quality standards, strategies for entering new export markets, sustainable development practices, and ways to improve overall production efficiency.
Digital Tools and Innovation at the Forefront
A significant dimension of the collaboration involves encouraging the adoption of digital technologies and innovative business strategies within the sector. Practical training sessions were organized for women entrepreneurs and textile industry professionals, covering the use of artificial intelligence, digital tools, business management practices, and communication skills. These sessions are intended to modernize how businesses within the Uzbekistan textile industry operate and compete internationally.
International Marketing Expertise to Strengthen Export Strategy
Recognizing the role of strategic marketing in achieving textile export growth, the Uzbekistan Textile and Garment Industry Association facilitated specialized seminars featuring international marketing expert Sven Eriskat. These sessions focused on applying effective marketing techniques in global markets, improving product promotion, and identifying new opportunities to expand exports. The Association has emphasized that leveraging international marketing knowledge is essential for enterprises aiming to grow their presence beyond domestic borders.
Design and Education: Building Long-Term Industry Capacity
The Germany-Uzbekistan cooperation extends well beyond production and trade. At the Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry, a five-day international training seminar was organized for designers, faculty members, industry professionals, and students. The event featured international fashion and design expert Robert Herzog, and participants exchanged knowledge and experience on modern design approaches as well as prevailing trends in the global fashion industry.
This multifaceted engagement — spanning workforce training, digital innovation, export strategy, and design education — reflects the scope of what the GUZ Partners project seeks to achieve for the Uzbekistan textile industry over the course of its three-year mandate. With Uzbekistan textile exports as the central goal, both sides continue to build the frameworks that can sustain long-term participation in global supply chains.
