Criticizing the recent U.S. decision to revoke duty-free treatment for low-value packages from China, the China National Light Industry Council stated that this move disrupts the normal trade order between the two nations, impacts global industrial cooperation, and undermines the rights and interests of consumers on both sides.
Describing it as a “self-defeating action,” the industry group emphasized that this decision not only threatens the stability of global industrial and supply chains for light industrial consumer goods—including textiles—but ultimately harms the interests of all parties involved, including the United States.
The industry group urged the U.S. administration to respect market rules, acknowledge the needs of the people, and cease its “wrong” practices. The call for mutual respect highlights the importance of maintaining a balanced trading environment, reinforcing the notion of trade balance and cooperation.
Additionally, the council called upon the international community to unite against trade bullying and firmly defend a fair and mutually beneficial international trading system.
The China National Textile and Apparel Council also voiced strong opposition to what it termed U.S. “hegemonic actions,” which disrupt the international supply chain order and inflate trade costs through domestic administrative measures.
