Cairo – In a recent initiative to enhance Egypt’s position in global trade, Abdel Aziz Elsherif, head of the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS), convened with Fadel Marzouk, leader of the Apparel Export Council of Egypt (AECE). Their talks focused on innovative approaches to elevate the nation’s garment and textile exports, highlighting key Egypt garment export growth strategies.
The pair’s discussions took place against a backdrop of significant transformations occurring within global trade and supply chains. Elsherif underscored the necessity of fostering closer collaboration between the ECS and various industry export councils. He stressed the need to better utilize Egypt’s commercial offices abroad, which provide essential market intelligence, technical specifications, and export regulations, to aid local exporters in tapping into new markets.
Furthermore, the ECS intends to enhance connections between Egyptian exporters and leading international buyers. This strategy includes facilitating direct meetings, showcasing the sector at international trade exhibitions, and supporting targeted export missions to key regions.
With realignments in global supply chains prompted by trade tensions, Elsherif identified Europe as a particularly promising market for Egyptian exports. He indicated that Egypt is strategically positioned to meet demands left unfulfilled by suppliers adversely affected by geopolitical changes. The ECS is committed to identifying and promoting high-potential markets by leveraging real-time data and insights from overseas offices.
AECE Chairperson Marzouk highlighted the garment sector’s robust performance, with exports reaching $1.608 billion from January to June 2025, a notable increase from $1.283 billion in the same period last year—signifying a 25% year-on-year growth. He is optimistic about maintaining this momentum, projecting full-year growth between 25% and 30%.
Additionally, Marzouk shared the council’s ambitious goal to elevate garment exports to $12 billion by 2031, aligning this target with efforts to enhance the sector’s global competitiveness and attract more foreign investment from critical manufacturing hubs. He further emphasized Africa’s emerging strategic significance for Egyptian garment exporters, citing increasing consumer demand in numerous rapidly developing economies across the continent.
The meeting concluded with a commitment for the AECE to provide comprehensive data on Egypt’s production capabilities and target markets, enabling the ECS and its global offices to fine-tune marketing strategies and align promotional efforts with real-time opportunities in international markets, emphasizing the importance of Egypt garment export growth strategies.
