Zalando is set to launch a five-piece t-shirt collection this month, incorporating RE&UP’s recycled cotton fibre as part of a growing push toward circular fashion at a commercial scale. The collection will be released under two of Zalando’s own labels — YOURTURN and Even&Odd — marking a tangible integration of next-generation sustainable materials into mainstream wardrobe essentials.

Each garment in the collection is crafted from a blend of 20% RE&UP Next-Gen Cotton and 80% organic cotton. The RE&UP recycled cotton used in this collaboration is derived from pre- and post-consumer textile waste, processed through an automated system that sorts, deconstructs, and decolorises previously discarded textiles.

From Waste to Wardrobe: How the Recycled Fibre Is Made

RE&UP’s proprietary process is designed to yield a fibre that meets the technical strength and traceability standards demanded by leading fashion brands — particularly for core wardrobe staples like cotton t-shirts, where durability, consistency, and softness are non-negotiable.

RE&UP’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Ebru Özküçük Güler, explained the significance of this collaboration: “The real measure of circularity is whether it can work in everyday products, at commercial scale. Our collaboration with Zalando is an important example of that transition: bringing textile-to-textile recycled cotton into mainstream collections without compromising the performance expected from the product. This is how circularity moves from ambition to infrastructure — through scalable technology, reliable materials and brands willing to integrate them into their core business.”

Scaling Circular Fashion Beyond Pilot Projects

The integration of recycled fibre into staple t-shirts aims to demonstrate that recycled textile materials can match the performance qualities of conventional fibres in products worn daily by millions. Zalando’s decision to adopt RE&UP’s recycled content within its own brand labels is described as a meaningful step toward expanding sustainable material sourcing well beyond limited pilot programmes and capsule collections.

Scaling recycled fibres across mainstream product lines is widely considered essential for genuinely embedding circular practices into the broader fashion industry. The sustainable fashion movement has long grappled with moving circularity from concept into consistent, commercial reality — and collaborations of this nature are increasingly seen as the bridge between the two.

RE&UP’s Fiber Club: Driving Industrial Adoption

Earlier this year, RE&UP launched the Fiber Club consortium, an initiative specifically aimed at scaling the industrial adoption of circular, next-generation materials. The Zalando collection sits within this broader strategic direction, reinforcing the role that recycled cotton and textile recycling can play across the fashion supply chain.

The Zalando x RE&UP collaboration reflects a broader industry shift where sustainable fashion is no longer confined to limited-edition drops or niche sustainability lines. By embedding recycled cotton into everyday collections under established consumer-facing brands, both companies are contributing to normalising circular fashion as a standard practice rather than an exception.
