The share of T&A in India’s total merchandise exports increased to 8.37% from April 2024 to March 2025, but fell to 7.88% in the most recent month, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Trade.

Within the textile sector, exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, and handloom products increased modestly by 3.19%, totaling $12.056 billion in FY25. Exports of man-made yarns, fabrics, and made-ups rose by 4.07% to $4.869 billion, while carpet exports surged by 10.46% to $1.542 billion.

In March 2025, exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups, and handloom products grew by 2.16% to $1.118 billion, while exports of man-made yarns, fabrics, and made-ups declined by 0.85% to $436 million. Conversely, carpet exports increased by 6.52% to $137 million.

Imports of raw cotton and waste skyrocketed by 103.67% to $1.219 billion during April–March 2025, compared to $599 million in the same period the previous year. Additionally, imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups rose by 8.69%, from $2.278 billion to $2.476 billion. In March 2025, imports of raw cotton and waste increased by 61.97%, from $49 million to $79 million, while imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups grew by 19.98% to $193 million.

In FY24, India’s textile and apparel exports stood at $34.430 billion, reflecting a decline of 3.24% from $35.581 billion in FY23. Apparel exports fell by 10.25% to $14.532 billion from $16.190 billion, while textile exports rose by 2.62% to $19.898 billion, up from $19.390 billion in FY23.

For FY24, India’s imports of raw cotton and waste were valued at $598.63 million, a drop of 58.39% from $1.440 billion the previous fiscal year. Imports of textile yarn, fabrics, and made-ups also declined by 12.98% to $2.278 billion, compared to $2.618 billion in FY23. Overall, the trends in India Textile Apparel Exports indicate both challenges and opportunities for future growth.
