AI Summary

The Italian Textile Machinery sector has demonstrated a notable recovery when comparing the second quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of the same year. While year-on-year comparisons remain impacted by challenging baselines, the sequential performance indicates a robust trend. Total Order Intake saw a significant increase of 25%, a result driven by a resurgence in both domestic and international Market Demand. Specifically, domestic orders rose by 39%, while international demand grew by 23%.

Analysis of Production Dynamics

Operating metrics reflect a stable outlook for the industry. Currently, the total backlog held by companies ensures approximately 3.5 months of production. Furthermore, the Production Capacity utilization rate for the sector was recorded at 79.7%.

Sector-Specific Growth

When analyzing individual segments relative to the first quarter of 2026, the domestic market showed growth or stationary trends across all categories, with spinning and weaving experiencing the most pronounced increases. In international markets, the Italian  Textile Machinery sector saw positive growth, specifically within the weaving, knitting, and finishing segments.

Outlook for Third Quarter 2026

Looking ahead, companies anticipate that sales volumes for the third quarter of 2026 will remain largely stable compared to the previous period. The industry maintains a cautious stance regarding the domestic market, while expectations for foreign markets remain balanced between growth and decline, reflecting a sense of cautious optimism.

Industry Perspectives on Market Stability

Marco Salvadè, president of ACIMIT, noted that despite ongoing international uncertainty, it is encouraging that the indicator remains positive in foreign markets, especially considering that approximately 80% of total Order Intake originates from outside the country. The domestic landscape presents a different scenario, as it is currently influenced by comparisons with the strong second quarter of 2025 and the introduction of the 2026-2028 hyper-depreciation incentive. Launched in June, the impact of these incentives on overall Production Capacity and investment remains to be seen as the market continues to adjust to the new policy framework and shifts in Market Demand.
