AI Summary

US-based industrial hemp processor Panda Biotech and Culturewell have officially announced the launch of the first fully integrated supply chain ecosystem for hemp in the Indian market. This collaboration bridges the gap between raw material cultivation and finished textile production by combining Panda Biotech’s advanced industrial hemp fibre processing with the extensive distribution network of Culturewell. This initiative marks a milestone for the industry, as it allows US-cultivated hemp to be degummed, spun, and processed into yarn within the borders of India for the first time.

Advanced Processing for Textile Manufacturing India

The partnership introduces specialized capabilities for mechanical cottonisation and degumming, two critical processes that were previously unavailable for the hemp sector in textile manufacturing India. Through this hemp fibre supply chain India, local mills gain access to high-quality, natural fibres that offer consistent performance and full traceability. The newly established infrastructure is designed to provide a versatile range of products, including mechanically cottonised fibre suitable for cotton blends and degummed fibre intended for high-end textiles and medical applications.

Quality Standards and Sustainable Textile Yarns

According to Panda Biotech President Dixie Carter, India represents a strategically important market where textile mills are actively seeking premium materials. The collaboration ensures that the resulting sustainable textile yarns are backed by international certifications, including the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and USDA BioPreferred standards. These certifications are essential for an integrated supply chain, as they support the rigorous sustainability requirements of global brands and provide the transparency needed in modern hemp yarn production.

Enhancing Global Competitiveness and Hemp Yarn Production

The establishment of this hemp fibre supply chain India offers local manufacturers three distinct advantages. First, processing US-grown industrial hemp fibre in India may allow exports to the United States to qualify for specific duty benefits, creating a potential cost advantage for exporters. Second, the consistency and commercial scale of the mechanically cottonised fibre allow Indian mills to meet the high-volume needs of international markets. Finally, the ability to produce sustainable textile yarns that meet global certifications ensures that textile manufacturing India remains competitive in the shift toward eco-conscious production.

Culturewell CEO Rajesh Raizada emphasized that this development is more than a simple supply agreement; it represents the creation of a new industrial framework for the region. By facilitating local hemp yarn production using certified American-grown raw materials, the partnership provides a ready-to-mill solution that is both degummed and spun, streamlining the production process for Indian textile leaders.
