Carbonfact, a leading provider of product-level carbon accounting and environmental intelligence solutions for the fashion industry, has acquired Vaayu, a sustainability data platform focused on fashion and retail. The acquisition brings together two complementary sustainability technology providers and is expected to enhance the tools available to apparel and footwear brands seeking greater environmental transparency, regulatory compliance, and decarbonization capabilities.
The deal combines Carbonfact’s expertise in carbon accounting and environmental reporting with Vaayu’s strengths in retail sustainability data and product-level climate insights. Together, the combined platform will support more than 300 apparel and footwear brands globally, creating one of the industry’s most comprehensive sustainability data ecosystems.
For Vaayu’s customers, the acquisition ensures continued access to the sustainability capabilities they currently rely on, while expanding the range of carbon accounting, compliance, and environmental intelligence tools available through Carbonfact’s platform. Carbonfact serves more than 200 brands and has built a strong reputation for helping fashion companies measure and reduce their environmental impact.
Carbonfact’s platform includes product impact measurement, detailed carbon accounting, eco-design functionalities, and environmental reporting tools. Its extensive database contains more than 150,000 fashion-specific emission factors and primary data sourced from over 7,000 textile factories, enabling highly granular product-level assessments.
Addressing Growing Regulatory Demands and Data Challenges
The acquisition comes at a pivotal moment for the fashion industry as brands face increasing pressure to comply with regulations requiring detailed environmental disclosures. Initiatives such as the Digital Product Passport, France’s Eco-Score, and California’s SB253 are accelerating the need for accurate product-level sustainability data and reporting.
Marc Laurent, CEO of Carbonfact, highlighted the significance of the transaction: “The fashion industry has a data problem that no amount of ambition can solve without the right infrastructure. Upcoming regulations require a shift from corporate-level data to product-level data. This deal gives the industry a single, rigorous foundation, and it unites two of fashion’s most comprehensive datasets. Vaayu’s customers will find a platform that handles every framework and compliance deadline they face, backed by data depth that no other platform in this sector can match.”
Namrata Sandhu, Founder and CEO of Vaayu, emphasized the shared vision behind the combination: “We started Vaayu to give retail and fashion companies the granular, product-level climate data they need to actually decarbonise, not just report on it. Carbonfact shares that conviction, and together we can deliver it at the scale this industry now requires. Our customers will get the same rigour they trust us for, now paired with the compliance coverage their next chapter demands.”
Advancing Decarbonization Solutions
Founded in 2020 by former Zalando Head of Sustainability Namrata Sandhu, Vaayu quickly established itself as an innovator in product-level carbon measurement for fashion and retail. The company attracted backing from Atomico and CapitalT. Carbonfact has been supported by Alven, Headline, and Y Combinator.
Looking ahead, Carbonfact is continuing to develop its AI-powered “Environmental Intelligence” platform, designed to help brands navigate complex climate data, improve environmental decision-making, and accelerate emissions reduction efforts. With the addition of Vaayu’s capabilities and customer base, Carbonfact aims to deliver an even more comprehensive suite of sustainability solutions for the global fashion industry.
