The world’s top 50 apparel brands collectively lost 4 per cent of their combined brand value in 2026, with the total falling to $350.9 billion. Brand Finance, the global brand valuation consultancy, attributed the decline to macroeconomic uncertainty, evolving trade dynamics and shifting consumer expectations. The gap between the broader global decline and the drop recorded in the United States offers retail buyers, sourcing teams and brand partners a comparative indicator of consumer-facing brand resilience.

Nike Holds Third Spot Despite a 7% Drop in Brand Value

Nike retained its position as the world’s third most valuable apparel brand in 2026, sitting behind Chanel and Louis Vuitton, even as its brand value fell 7 per cent to $27.3 billion. According to Brand Finance, Nike also ranked as the second strongest apparel brand globally, recording a Brand Strength Index score of 89.9 out of 100, down 4.8 points from the previous year, while continuing to hold an AAA+ rating.

Adidas moved in a sharply different direction. The German sportswear giant saw its apparel brand value rise 2 per cent to $18.9 billion, securing seventh place in the global ranking, as reported by Brand Finance.

Tiffany & Co. Leads US Brand Growth, Levi’s Slips

Tiffany & Co. was identified by Brand Finance as the fastest-growing US apparel brand by brand value in 2026, recording a 16 per cent rise. The luxury jeweller’s brand value was placed at approximately $8.6 to $8.7 billion in the report, ranking it 12th globally and second among US apparel brands.

Levi’s, by contrast, saw its brand value decline 8 per cent to $2.9 billion, placing it 32nd globally within the top 50 apparel brands ranked by Brand Finance.

FIFA’s Clean-Venue Policy Puts Levi’s in an Unusual Spotlight

Following the valuation date, a notable development surrounded Levi’s. FIFA’s “clean venue” policy for the 2026 World Cup required Levi’s Stadium to cover its trademark batwing logo and compete under the name San Francisco Bay Area Stadium for the duration of the tournament. In response, Levi’s changed its Instagram profile picture to an image of its covered logo and draped matching white sheets over landmark sites in Paris, London and Hong Kong, according to Brand Finance.

Laurence Newell, Executive Chairman, Americas, Brand Finance, commented on the move: “Levi’s offers a different lesson. Forced to cover its own logo under FIFA’s clean-venue rules, the brand has turned the restriction into a guerrilla marketing moment, leaning into the censorship rather than fighting it. It’s a reminder that brand value is not built through spend; a well-timed piece of wit from a nearly 150-year-old company can generate outsized attention. Whether that translates into measurable brand strength and value gains is something we’ll be watching for.”

Nike’s “Rip the Script” Campaign Eyes the 2026 FIFA World Cup

After the valuation date, Nike continued to invest heavily in football through its “Rip the Script” campaign — a six-minute, Hollywood-style film built around the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The campaign featured footballers including Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo, alongside entertainment figures Kim Kardashian, Channing Tatum and Ted Lasso.

Brand Finance noted that the campaign’s reach extends beyond core sports audiences into broader popular culture, and indicated it would monitor the campaign’s impact on Nike brand value and brand strength when compiling the 2027 rankings.

Laurence Newell added: “Football remains one of the most competitive battlegrounds in global sportswear, and Nike’s ‘Rip the Script’ campaign is a clear response to the ground Adidas has been making up around the World Cup. Neither campaign is reflected in this year’s valuations, but the fight for cultural relevance in football is exactly the kind of activity that will shape future brand perceptions.”

The findings from the Brand Finance 2026 apparel brand value report underline a sector navigating real pressure from macroeconomic headwinds, trade complexities and changing consumer behaviour, even as individual brands find distinct ways to sustain — or grow — their presence in a crowded global market.
