Net sales of US’ Upland cotton for the 2026-27 marketing year came in at 209,400 running bales (RB), with each running bale weighing approximately 226.8 kg. While this figure fell well short of the previous week’s unusually high bookings of 905,000 RB, the latest tally continued to reflect active demand from several of the world’s major cotton-consuming nations.
Vietnam emerged as the largest buyer during the reporting period, securing 55,400 RB, which included 2,700 RB switched from Indonesia alongside reductions of 700 RB. Pakistan followed with purchases of 51,900 RB. El Salvador recorded bookings of 40,100 RB, Honduras secured 27,600 RB, and India purchased 16,500 RB, a figure that included 900 RB switched from Bangladesh.
Partially offsetting these purchases were reductions reported for China at 4,800 RB, Mexico at 4,000 RB, Turkiye at 1,200 RB, and Hong Kong at 600 RB.
Forward Bookings for 2027-28 Add Further Support
Forward demand continued to provide a measure of support to US cotton export sales, with Upland cotton bookings for the 2027-28 marketing year totalling 64,900 RB. El Salvador accounted for the largest share at 35,100 RB, followed by Guatemala with 15,400 RB and Honduras with 14,300 RB.
Upland Cotton Export Shipments Rise Noticeably
Upland cotton export shipments increased to 222,000 RB for the period, up from 140,500 RB recorded in the previous report. Vietnam was the leading destination at 66,800 RB, followed by Pakistan at 30,200 RB, India at 28,200 RB, Bangladesh at 22,400 RB, and Turkiye at 21,500 RB. The increase in physical shipments pointed to meaningful progress in executing existing commitments in the US cotton export sales pipeline.
Pima Cotton Net Sales for 2026-27 Ease from Prior Week’s Levels
Net sales of Pima cotton for the 2026-27 marketing year totalled 5,900 RB, a notable pullback from the 50,600 RB recorded in the prior week. India led Pima purchases during the reporting period with 3,000 RB, followed by Vietnam at 1,800 RB, Djibouti at 600 RB, Peru at 500 RB, and Thailand at 400 RB. These figures were partially offset by reductions reported for Hong Kong and Mexico.
Pima Cotton Shipments Also Move Higher
Pima cotton export shipments rose to 6,900 RB from 6,000 RB in the previous reporting cycle. India received 2,700 RB, Pakistan took in 2,400 RB, Turkiye and Djibouti each received 600 RB, and Bangladesh received 200 RB.
Market Sentiment Remains Cautiously Positive
The overall report was viewed as moderately positive for US cotton market demand sentiment. The sharp rise in physical cotton export shipments reflected meaningful progress in fulfilling prior commitments. At the same time, broad-based Upland cotton purchases alongside forward bookings from Central American markets indicated continued interest from overseas buyers. That said, the decline in weekly Upland sales compared to the previous week, combined with reductions reported from China, tempered the strength of the positive signal.
